Do your screens help keep heat in my porch during the cooler months?
Yes! One thing we consistently find is homeowners who originally invest in screens to help solve a bug or sun problem, and then end up using them for heat in the winter more than anything. Our solar screens, especially 90% or thicker, let your heaters or fireplace heat your space without the wind taking all that heat away. Want to host Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner outside? Love watching football on the patio in the fall? Or maybe you'd just like to enjoy your morning coffee on the porch without that morning chill? We can help.
I have big, crazy dogs who run into things. How are your screens with pets?
We've installed screens on hundreds of homes and are still waiting for our first instance of pet damage. (Furry friends, please don't take that as a challenge!)
Pro tip: leave one of your screens a foot or two off the ground and use it as a dog door, while still offering sun protection & privacy.
Do your screens come with a wind sensor? I had a salesperson from another company come out and offer me a free wind sensor.
No. We don't offer wind sensors on our screens, because they don't need them. We've installed and serviced screens in a variety of sizes, locations, and applications, and we know how Tennessee's crazy weather can affect them. We're confident that our installations will stand up to TN weather!
If another company is offering free wind sensors with their screens, it could mean that they aren't confident in their product or installations, or that they don't want to be responsible for service if a screen comes out of a track.
Ok, so no wind sensors. When do I need to raise the screens up?
Every screen, home, porch, and patio is different. If you have a 25' x 12' screen, with a thick 95% mesh, on top of a hill and fully exposed towards the southwest, you may need to raise your screens when storms approach. But for most of our installs, you can leave the screens down year-round without a worry. In fact, they'll help protect everything inside the porch from the wind, rain & snow.
When you book a consultation with us, we pay attention to your unique situation - the direction your porch faces, what materials we're attaching to, the type of mesh, etc - to determine the best solution for you and your home.
25' x 12'? That would be a huge screen! How large do your screens get?
We can span 30' wide with one screen, or up to 20' tall at some widths! If you bring us on in the planning stages of your space, we can advise on whether it's better to have fewer, larger openings, or break it up into smaller sections.
Why not just get a fixed screened-in porch?
Look, we love screened in porches. Fixed screens were the best choice for a long time if you wanted to enjoy your outdoor living space without bugs flying around your dining table. So why should you consider motorized screens instead? There are many reasons.
To start, cleaning a screened-in porch can be a nightmare. They tend to attract spider webs, pollen, and gunk. With motorized screens, just raise your screens and use a leaf blower to get junk off of your porch.
Another benefit of motorized screens is using a thicker material, like our 90% solar mesh. Not only do these screens keep out flying insects, but they keep out wind, rain, and sun when you need them to. They protect furniture and floors from fading. Thicker material like that doesn't work for a fixed screen porch. And when you don't need the screens, just open them up!
There's also the cool factor. Motorized screens undoubtedly add a touch of sleek sophistication to your home. The moment the sun comes around and blinds you while you're trying to watch TV or talk with a friend, you can hit a button and get rid of the glare. That's pretty cool.
